Glass-break detectors are used to monitor window facades and glass doors for glass breakage. An intruder is detected as soon as they attempt to gain access. If a glass pane is smashed in, the glass-break detector detects this as an intrusion attempt and reports it to the intruder alarm control panel. TELENOT offers glass-break detectors for conventional wiring as well as a wireless device for a different security classes.

Glass-break detectors in use

If an intrusion attempt involves glass breakage, such as a window being smashed in, the TELENOT glass-break detector immediately issues an alarm. This alarm is relayed as a signal tone and sometimes additionally via light signals. As part of an alarm system, glass-break detectors therefore protect objects inside a building.

What types of glass-break detectors are there and what are the differences?

TELENOT offers various types of glass-break detectors that use different operating principles:

  • Active glass-break detectors: These monitor glass surfaces with the help of a transmitter that vibrates the panes and a receiver that evaluates these vibrations. If the glass is damaged, the transmission between the elements changes and the alarm is triggered. This type of glass-break detector is suitable for all types of windows.
  • Passive glass-break detectors: These glass-break detectors register the typical vibrations of breaking glass and then trigger an alarm. They are used for insulating glass windows, among other things.
  • Acoustic glass-break detectors: These work with sound waves and recognize the typical sounds of shattering glass. This means that one sensor can monitor multiple glass panes (e.g., in conservatories or on window fronts) that are within “hearing range.”

How reliable are glass-break detectors?

Glass-break detectors are particularly dependable if the signals are reliably evaluated under all conditions with the help of intelligent security technology. TELENOT also relies on this principle when developing glass-break detectors. This can be recognized by the certifications of VdS Schadenverhütung GmbH: The individual glass-break detectors as well as the entire range of TELENOT alarm systems bear a VdS symbol to prove that they meet the highest security standards.

The TELENOT glass-break detector that offers the highest level of protection is the active glass-break detector MAGS-S, which is certified in accordance with VdS class C.

This makes it suitable for commercial or high-risk areas of application, such as jewelry stores.

Installing glass-break detectors: quickly and professionally

Installing a glass-break detector is simple and yet very effective. For the acoustic glass-break detector AGB 800, choose a mounting location so that the detector is positioned on one of the glass surfaces to be monitored on the adjacent or opposite indoor wall or ceiling. The glass-break detector requires a direct line of sight to all glass surfaces to be protected. To find an optimum mounting location, a functional test must be carried out with the help of the ADT 700 acoustic testing device. This task can be entrusted to the qualified TELENOT specialist installers, who will then select the mounting location for the glass-break detector based on the individual conditions in your building. This gives you peace of mind knowing that the glass-break detector will be reliably and professionally installed!
