The linear smoke detector FireRay 5000 detects smoke over a distance of 8 to 50 meters (or from 50 meters to 100 meters with the use of three extension reflectors). If smoke penetrates the infrared beam, attenuating it in a characteristic manner, a fire alarm contact is triggered at the control unit.

How does a light barrier smoke detector work?

The linear smoke detector FireRay 5000’s transmitter and receiver are located within a single housing, the detector unit. Separate from this housing is the control unit, which is connected to the fire detection and alarm system. The detector unit shines infrared light on a reflector, creating a light barrier. As soon as smoke characteristically penetrates the infrared beam, a contact for the fire alarm is triggered at the control unit.

Automatic fine-tuning and readjustment

Mounting the linear smoke detector FireRay 5000 is incredibly simple. An integrated, visible beam of light helps to align the detector unit with the reflector during commissioning. The detector unit then automatically takes over, fine-tuning the positioning. If the building moves (for example when the ground settles), a small, integrated motor automatically moves the detector back into the optimal position in regards to the reflector.
